SBP to announce monetary policy amid expectations of rate hike

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will announce its monetary policy today (Monday), with analysts expecting a rise of up to one percentage point in interest rates in the wake of Middle East tensions and rising petroleum prices.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), chaired by SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad, will review domestic and international economic conditions during its meeting.

Following the meeting, Jameel Ahmad will address a press conference to announce the policy decision.

Analysts expect the central bank to raise the policy rate by up to one percentage point in view of the regional situation and increases in petroleum product prices.

The policy rate currently stands at 11.5%.
