Mohatta Palace to host Sindh Literature Festival in November

The ninth edition of the Sindh Literature Festival (SLF) will be held at Karachi’s historic Mohatta Palace on November 21 and 22, 2026, bringing together writers, poets, scholars, artists and readers for two days of literary and cultural activities.

The dates and venue were announced on the festival’s official Instagram account, which invited audiences to join the gathering celebrating Sindh’s literature, history, languages and cultural traditions.

Established in 2016, the festival has become a regular platform for promoting Sindhi literature, indigenous languages, music, history and the arts.

According to its official website, the event aims to connect established and emerging writers with readers while encouraging discussion on the province’s social, cultural and intellectual life.

Previous editions have featured panel discussions, book launches, poetry recitals, theatre performances and music, alongside conversations on language, education, politics, heritage and environmental issues.

Discussions have also focused on the Indus River, cultural identity and the role of literature in addressing contemporary challenges.

Organised by the Sindh Literary Foundation, the festival lists journalist Naseer Gopang as its founder and producer.

The event’s previous editions have highlighted themes linked to Sindh’s history and current concerns.

The fifth edition, held at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi in March 2022, marked the centenary of the discovery of Mohenjo-daro and explored the region’s archaeological heritage.

The sixth edition took place in March 2023 under the theme “Aalam Sabh Abaad Kareen”, focusing on climate change and global warming.

In December 2024, the seventh edition was held at Liaquat Memorial Library in Karachi under the theme “Save Indus, Save Life”.

The eighth edition took place at Beach Luxury Hotel on November 15 and 16, 2025, under the theme “Celebrate the Power of the World”.

The upcoming edition will be hosted at Mohatta Palace, a landmark in Karachi’s Clifton area.

Built in the late 1920s for businessman Rai Bahadur Seth Shivratan Mohatta, the palace is now a historic monument under the Government of Sindh and operates as a museum.

The venue’s architectural heritage and cultural significance offer a fitting setting for a festival centred on literature, history and artistic expression.

The ninth edition is expected to provide another opportunity for audiences to engage with Sindh’s literary traditions while exploring the ideas, stories and creative voices shaping the province’s cultural identity.
