Energy project and community development

The Thar Block-1 Integrated Energy Project is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) energy cooperation framework. Developed and operated by Shanghai Electric, it integrates an open-pit lignite mine with an annual production capacity of 7.8 million tonnes and a coal-fired power plant comprising two 660-megawatt units.

The project uses supercritical power generation technology and has a combined generation capacity of 1,320MW.

According to the company, its electricity supplies power to more than four million households across Pakistan.

Shanghai Electric said it remained committed to combining industrial development with community welfare through initiatives aimed at improving healthcare and social conditions in areas surrounding its operations.

The company operates in power generation equipment, industrial machinery and energy solutions, and says it continues to support infrastructure development alongside community engagement.
