Trump approval rating hits record low ahead of US midterms

US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a record low, according to new opinion polls, raising concerns for Republicans ahead of next month’s midterm elections.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll put Trump’s approval rating at 32%, with the president losing support among independent voters and Latinos who backed him in the 2024 election.

The decline could pose a major challenge for Republicans as they seek to retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.

Trump dismissed questions about his falling approval ratings before boarding a flight to Nebraska on Monday, saying, “I’m doing great,” while blaming CNN and other media outlets for negative coverage.

A separate NBC News/Telemundo poll released on Sunday showed that 59% of Latino voters preferred a Democratic-controlled Congress, twice the proportion recorded two years ago.

Only 24% of Hispanic Americans surveyed approved of Trump’s performance.

Trump has been campaigning across the country for Republican candidates in recent days, even as signs of declining support emerge in traditionally conservative states.

Some Republican lawmakers have also begun distancing themselves from the president on issues including immigration as they seek to retain support in their constituencies.

Growing concerns over the economy, the war with Iran and other key issues linked to the administration could further hurt Republican candidates in the midterm elections.
