The announcement was made at CinemaCon 2025, where it was also revealed that the John Wick franchise is expanding with an animated prequel and a Caine spinoff directed by martial arts icon Donnie Yen.
The animated prequel, featuring Reeves’ voice, will explore John Wick’s infamous “Impossible Task,” when he eliminated all his rivals in one night to gain freedom from the High Table. Shannon Tindle (Ultraman: Rising) will direct, with Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water) writing the screenplay.
Meanwhile, Yen will both direct and star in Caine, a standalone film following his blind assassin character from John Wick: Chapter 4. The spinoff will begin production in Hong Kong later this year, continuing Caine’s journey after being freed from the High Table’s control.
In addition, Ana de Armas’ Ballerina, set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, hits theaters on June 6, 2025. De Armas described it as her most physically demanding role, requiring months of training in combat and firearms.
With John Wick 5, Ballerina, Caine, and the animated prequel, Lionsgate is expanding the John Wick universe into a full-fledged cinematic franchise, ensuring more action-packed stories for fans.
