Denise Richards has opened up about her frustration with ex-husband Charlie Sheen for publicly announcing his HIV diagnosis in 2015 before she had the chance to prepare their daughters, Sami, 21, and Lola, 19.

In a recent interview on Whine Down with Jana Kramer, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 54, revealed that Sheen did not give her a heads-up before disclosing his diagnosis on the Today show. She wished she had been warned so she could have had a private conversation with their children first.

“But I wish he gave me a heads up, like, ‘Hey, I’m doing it today.’ Because it was everywhere,” Richards shared. She added that she picked up her daughters early from school that day to shield them from hearing the news from classmates.

She acknowledged that Sheen “had to” make the announcement because tabloids had discovered the diagnosis, but she found it difficult to explain the situation to her young daughters at the time.

Richards also spoke about their co-parenting dynamic, saying, “Truthfully, it wasn’t co-parenting. I parent my way. He parents his way.” While she wishes they were close friends for their daughters’ sake, she admitted, “That’s just not the relationship we have.”

Despite past challenges, Richards remains hopeful for a more supportive relationship in the future.
