Trump names Katie Zacharia as new White House press secretary
US President Donald Trump has named Katie Zacharia, a communications adviser at his media company, as the next White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt.
Trump announced the appointment on his Truth Social platform, describing Zacharia as a “loyal and brilliant supporter” who had backed him from the beginning.
Zacharia thanked Trump for the appointment, calling it the “honour of a lifetime”.
In a post on X, she said her focus would be on communicating the administration’s achievements to the American public.
“The work ahead is to continue delivering strong results for our Country and communicating to the American people the major wins that this Administration is making every single day,” she wrote.
Zacharia is a conservative commentator for Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates Truth Social.
She briefly served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year and has appeared as a commentator on Fox News and Newsmax.
Trump said she had been involved in his presidential campaigns, particularly in swing states.
Zacharia holds a law degree from Pepperdine University, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Leavitt, who became White House press secretary in January 2025, announced her departure on August 12 and left the position on August 27.
She said she wanted to spend more time with her young children.
Fox News Channel announced that Leavitt would join the network as an on-air contributor from November 1.
