Pakistan Army hits Afghan Taliban positions after cross-border firing in KP

The Pakistan Army has delivered a strong response to unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, destroying a Taliban base camp and damaging several border posts.

Several Afghan Taliban personnel were reportedly killed in the retaliatory action, while the exchange of fire was continuing, according to security sources.

The firing took place in the Taida sector, Upper Kurram and Ghozgarhi, the sources said.

In Upper Kurram, Pakistani forces used artillery to target Afghan Taliban border positions and the Shipola base camp. The army also struck the Topsar post, while the Shipola camp was completely destroyed, according to the sources.

Several Afghan Taliban personnel were also reportedly killed during the retaliatory action in Ghozgarhi.

Security sources alleged that the cross-border firing was aimed at facilitating the illegal entry of militants into Pakistan. The attempt was foiled by the Pakistan Army’s effective response, they said.

The sources further claimed that Afghan Taliban personnel abandoned their border posts and fled during the Pakistani military’s strikes.

The Pakistan Army remains on high alert and is determined to defend the country’s territorial integrity and protect national security, the sources said.
