Police couple accused of torturing 9-year-old domestic worker in Sheikhupura
A nine-year-old domestic worker, Iman Fatima, was allegedly tortured by a police employee couple in Sheikhupura’s Gujjar Town, with her parents accusing them of breaking her arm and burning her with a heated iron rod.
The girl’s parents alleged that Waris and Zunaira, both employees of the police department, accused Iman of theft and beat her with sticks and shoe soles, leaving her with a fractured arm. They also accused the couple of burning the child with a heated iron rod.
In her statement, Iman said the accused continued beating her despite her repeated pleas for mercy. She said neighbours intervened to rescue her and informed the police.
The girl further claimed that police personnel took her to a hospital but left her there.
Iman’s mother alleged that the accused threatened the girl’s father and forced him to place his thumbprints on stamp paper.
The parents said police had registered a case over the alleged torture but had not included legal provisions relating to the fracture of their daughter’s arm. They also alleged that the accused continued to threaten the family.
The parents have appealed to the authorities for justice and protection against further threats.
