Saudi coalition intercepts missile, drones targeting several regions
The Saudi Arabia-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile targeting the Kingdom’s southern region and several drones launched by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia towards different parts of the country.
Maj-Gen. Turki Al Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, said on Friday that the ballistic missile had been launched towards southern Saudi Arabia by the “terrorist Houthi militia”.
The coalition also reported intercepting and destroying a drone over Riyadh, while another drone launched towards the holy city of Madinah was brought down.
On Saturday morning, the coalition said it had destroyed two more drones, one over the Eastern Province and the other in the Kingdom’s southern region.
Earlier on Friday, the coalition reported intercepting and destroying a Houthi-launched drone over the Makkah region.
The incidents come amid weeks of Houthi attacks targeting Saudi cities, airports and energy infrastructure.
A missile strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid Airport on October 10 killed 13 travellers and injured more than 300, according to the report.
