Multan man accused of burning mother, two sisters alive killed in alleged police encounter

A man accused of burning his mother and two sisters alive in the name of honour in Multan was killed in an alleged police encounter in Punjab’s Khanewal district, Counter Crime Department (CCD) sources said on Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Aman Abbasi, was allegedly involved in the murder of the three women on October 28.

According to CCD sources, a police team was taking Abbasi to the Kahror Pacca area for further investigation, recovery and identification of the crime scene when armed accomplices allegedly ambushed the police party to free him.

The police returned fire, during which Abbasi was hit by bullets fired by his own accomplices and died at the scene, the sources said.

The attackers fled under the cover of darkness.

Police shifted Abbasi’s body to a hospital for a post-mortem examination and launched a search operation to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Mother, two daughters killed in house fire

On October 28, a fire broke out at a house in Multan’s DHA area, killing a woman and her two daughters. The incident was initially treated as an accidental fire.

However, police investigations later revealed that the three women had allegedly been murdered and the crime staged as a fire incident.

Investigators identified the woman’s son, Aman Abbasi, as the prime suspect.

According to police, Abbasi allegedly struck his mother and two sisters on the head with a wooden object, rendering them unconscious. He then doused them with petrol and set them on fire to make the killings appear accidental.

Police also obtained CCTV footage from a petrol station where the suspect had allegedly purchased fuel used in the crime.

Following the breakthrough, DHA police registered a case on their own complaint and arrested Abbasi. Investigators said he had confessed to killing his mother and sisters during interrogation.

He was subsequently taken for further investigation and recovery when the alleged encounter took place.
