Doctor shot dead inside Karachi hospital during OPD

A doctor was shot dead on Friday by unidentified armed men who entered a hospital in Gulshan-e-Maymar and opened fire, police said.

The attackers escaped from the scene.

According to preliminary reports, the incident took place at Agha Hospital in Sector X-2. Dr Kashif was examining patients in the outpatient department (OPD) when two armed suspects entered the hospital and fired at him.

He was critically wounded and was shifted for medical treatment. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police said the victim was identified as Dr Kashif. They said the reason for the attack was not yet known. Police collected evidence from the scene and started a search for the suspects.

Home minister takes notice

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar took notice of the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects. He sought a detailed report from the SSP West.

The minister directed law enforcement agencies to use all available resources to identify the attackers. He said targeting a doctor inside a medical centre was deeply regrettable and condemnable.

He ordered that the motives and facts behind the attack be uncovered. He asked that the investigation cover all possible angles, including a personal dispute, and said investigators should leave no stone unturned.

Lanjar also directed that citizens in the city, particularly those working at medical centres, be given proper protection. He expressed condolences to the family of the slain doctor.
