Houthi drone hit Madinah power grid station: Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia said a drone attack targeted the Taiba Grid Station in the holy city of Madinah early Tuesday, temporarily disabling one electricity transformer but leaving the wider power network operational.
Coalition forces spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki said the attack took place at 5:11am on September 29.
He said investigations by the relevant authorities, along with evidence collected from the site and analysis of the drone wreckage, confirmed the involvement of the Houthi militia in planning and carrying out the attack.
Al-Malki said one transformer at the station was temporarily taken out of service. The overall electricity network, however, remained unaffected.
He said the Taiba Grid Station is part of the civilian electricity infrastructure that supplies power to the Prophet’s (Peace be Upon Him) Mosque.
Al-Malki described the targeting of civilian infrastructure as part of what he called the Houthis’ continued attempts to target holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.
He said the attack sought to provoke Muslims around the world and pledged that coalition forces would continue taking measures to prevent such attacks and protect the Two Holy Mosques.
The spokesman also said measures would continue to ensure the safety of pilgrims and visitors in Makkah and Madinah.
