Rangers deployment extended in Islamabad, Punjab until Oct 15
The federal government has extended the deployment of Rangers in Islamabad and other districts of Punjab as part of security measures ahead of a proposed long march by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is planning to launch a protest march to Islamabad.
Under the plan, convoys from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and other parts of the country would reach Islamabad to stage a protest.
According to sources, the federal government has extended the deployment until October 15, 2026, following requests from the Islamabad Chief Commissioner and the Punjab Home Department.
The Rangers personnel will perform duties assigned by the chief commissioner and the provincial government, sources said.
The deployment had previously been extended until October 5, according to the sources.
