Security tightened in Peshawar ahead of PTI protest

Security has been tightened in Peshawar on Monday following the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with roads blocked at several locations and a heavy police presence deployed ahead of a possible Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest.

Containers and barbed wire have been used to seal the road from Hashtnagri Chowk to Soray Bridge, with police blocking traffic from both sides.

A heavy contingent of police personnel, including SSP Operations Farhan Khan, has been deployed at Hashtnagri Chowk.

The PTI has announced plans to stage a protest and march towards the Red Zone.

The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service remained suspended for a second consecutive day due to security arrangements.

Mobile phone services have been restored, while internet services remain partially available.

Educational institutions are closed amid security concerns, but businesses remain open and routine commercial activities continue.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has called a meeting of the Apex Committee to review the province’s overall security situation and discuss law and order.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is also expected to attend the meeting.
