33 million people in Pakistan have diabetes, over 1 million rely on insulin

Pakistan has an estimated 33 million people living with diabetes, with more than one million relying on insulin, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions to ensure uninterrupted access to the essential medicine.

Amid concerns over insulin access, Novo Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting people living with diabetes by working with partners to help maintain continuity of treatment.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the company said it recognised the importance of reliable insulin supplies for patients and their families and was working to support access to treatment.

Mehtaz Sultan Khan, general manager of Novo Pakistan, said diabetes care had remained central to the company’s mission for more than a century, adding that reliable access to treatment remained a priority.

“For people who depend on insulin, reliable access to treatment is essential. We recognise the concerns being raised and are stepping up to play our part in supporting patients in Pakistan,” she said.

The company said it remained committed to working with healthcare professionals, policymakers and patient communities to improve diabetes care and address the growing disease burden in Pakistan.

It advised people with concerns about their prescribed insulin to consult healthcare professionals about appropriate next steps.
