Man arrested for assaulting petrol pump worker, says Maryam

A man accused of assaulting a petrol pump worker has been arrested, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Friday, sharing a video of the arrest on social media.

In a post on X, Maryam said wealth, influence and political connections could not shield anyone from accountability, stressing that no one was above the law.

“This is a tight slap in the face of those entitled, spoiled brats who look down upon the poor as if they were lesser human beings,” she wrote.

She said some people believed their wealth and power allowed them to exploit and intimidate others without facing consequences.

“As Chief Minister of Punjab, I stand firmly with the oppressed, regardless of how powerful their oppressors may be,” she said, adding that no amount of wealth, influence or political connections should enable anyone to escape accountability.

CM Maryam said justice was a fundamental right of every citizen, not a privilege reserved for the rich and powerful. She added that no victim should have to fight for justice alone because the accused person had money or influence.

The video shared by the chief minister shows the man in police custody being slapped forcefully by the petrol pump worker.

CM Maryam reiterated her commitment to supporting victims and ensuring that those responsible for wrongdoing were held accountable, regardless of their social or political standing.
