Trump says US making ‘a lot of progress’ in talks with Iran

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Washington is making significant progress in negotiations with Iran, saying Tehran is interested in reaching an agreement.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump said the two sides were currently engaged in discussions and suggested that diplomatic efforts were moving forward.

“We’re dealing with them now. They want to make a deal,” Trump said, adding that the US had made “a lot of progress with Iran” without offering further details.

Trump also rejected characterising the confrontation with Iran as a war, instead describing Washington’s approach as a blockade against Tehran.

“We’re not fighting,” he said, claiming that the United States had imposed “the greatest blockade in military history.”

Comparing the situation with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Trump also claimed that no American personnel had been killed over the past seven months.

However, he acknowledged that US forces had conducted limited strikes against Iranian military equipment, claiming that an Iranian air defence system had been destroyed within minutes.

“They built a little bit of an anti-aircraft device, and we knocked it out in about 15 minutes, maybe five,” Trump said, without disclosing when or where the operation took place.

The US president further claimed that Iran’s navy had been destroyed and that the country was facing an inflation rate of 300 per cent.

Trump did not provide evidence or additional details to support these claims, while the broader situation surrounding US-Iran negotiations and military tensions remains significant.
