Abdul El Sayed launches ‘Habibi PAC’ after Senate victory
US Senator-elect Abdul El Sayed has taken steps to maintain his political presence beyond the election campaign by setting up a new fundraising organisation, dubbed “Habibi PAC”, The Hill reported.
According to Federal Election Commission records, the Michigan Democrat has registered a leadership political action committee, an independent fundraising platform intended to support fellow political allies.
The initiative takes its name from “Habibi”, an Arabic expression meaning “my beloved”, which became a popular catchphrase among El Sayed’s supporters during his campaign.
The phrase also featured prominently in his victory address, when he used it to greet US Vice President JD Vance before noting that Vance would have to administer his oath of office in January.
El Sayed’s campaign drew attention for his open embrace of his Muslim identity, although it also faced religiously charged criticism.
President Donald Trump labelled him a “jihadist”, while Republican rival Mike Rogers attempted to portray him as having links to extremist organisations, claims for which no established connection was presented.
His victory in Michigan, a key battleground state, has added to his political prominence as parties begin looking towards the 2028 presidential contest.
