According to a spokesperson, authorities have begun collecting samples of bottled water being delivered monthly to homes, offices, markets and residential areas. Currently, more than a dozen companies are distributing this water throughout Rawalpindi and the cantonment area.
The Civil Defence Department has formed four dedicated teams to collect water samples from across the city, including Murree Road, both sides of the cantonment, and surrounding commercial and office zones.
District Civil Defence Officer Talib Hussain confirmed that this action was initiated following public complaints submitted to the deputy commissioner regarding the supply of unsafe water being falsely marketed as mineral water.
The collected water samples are being sent to a government water testing laboratory. Companies whose water fails the lab tests will face immediate bans on supply and sales, heavy fines, and possible legal action.
Teams are now conducting daily inspections at major shopping malls and private offices to collect further samples of bottled water being supplied under the mineral water label.
