Winter-like weather sets in as rain lashes Islamabad, KP

Rain in Islamabad and different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday brought a change in the weather, signalling the arrival of winter.

In Peshawar, where rain started last night, broke the heat spell and turned the weather cooler and pleasant.

Thunderstorms, strong winds and rain were reported in suburban areas of Khyber, including Bara, Jamrud and Landi Kotal, with hail reported in some areas.

The rain has also affected traffic on the Pak-Afghan Highway, where flash floods at several points disrupted the flow of traffic.

Heavy rain has been continuing in Malakand since late last night, with several power feeders tripping in Dargai, Batkhela and Thana and other areas.

As part of administrative measures, Rescue 1122 personnel have been put on alert, while the district administration has advised residents to stay away from streams and waterways.

The rain also disrupted power supplies across the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) region, affecting 83 feeders.

The affected feeders included 19 in Peshawar, 13 in Khyber, nine in Swabi, 29 in Mardan and 13 in Swat.

According to a PESCO spokesperson, restoration work has begun in areas where the rain has stopped, while repair work in other areas will begin once the weather clears.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds was also reported in Attock and surrounding areas, with water accumulating on roads and streets due to inadequate drainage.

Meanwhile, snowfall and rain have begun in the hilly areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, bringing an end to the summer season.

The intensity of the heat has eased in Muzaffarabad and other areas, while upper regions have come under the grip of colder weather.
