Around 40 killed or wounded in Houthi strike on Yemen camp
A Houthi ballistic missile attack on a military camp in Yemen’s eastern Shabwa province killed or wounded around 40 people on Monday, according to a local official.
The Shabwa deputy governor said the missiles struck Al Alam camp in the Jardan district, which housed new recruits undergoing training before joining the security forces, local news outlet Yemen Monitor reported.
Yemen’s armed forces spokesperson said the Houthis fired three ballistic missiles at the province, hitting a training centre for security and police personnel.
The spokesperson accused the group of deliberately killing Yemenis across the country.
Yemen Monitor also cited local sources as reporting at least 40 casualties in an initial toll, without specifying how many people were killed or injured.
The Houthis did not immediately comment on the reported attack.
The strike comes amid escalating hostilities between the Houthis and forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognised government, which is backed by a Saudi-led coalition.
Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and much of the country’s north.
