Three killed in attacks on Saudi airport, oilfield

Three people were killed and at least 10 injured in separate attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield, authorities said on Wednesday.

The attacks come amid escalating Houthi assaults on Saudi targets.

Amid the strikes, the US State Department has ordered some diplomats and family members to depart from its missions in Saudi Arabia and plans to withdraw family members from a number of other US ​missions in the region, US officials told Reuters.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said one person was killed and eight others injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport.

The injured, whose conditions range from minor to critical, were taken to hospitals for treatment.

In a separate incident, Saudi air defences intercepted a drone attempting to strike Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield in the Eastern Province.

According to the Ministry of Energy, falling debris killed two residents, a Filipino and a Nepali, and injured two others, a Pakistani and an Indian.

The incident also sparked a fire in a contractor’s vehicle outside the facility’s perimeter but did not affect oilfield operations.

Recent incidents at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport have also resulted in fatalities and hundreds of injuries.

Meanwhile, the US State Department has ordered diplomats and their family members to leave its missions in Saudi Arabia, citing security concerns over possible further Houthi attacks.

The US Embassy in Riyadh also issued a security alert warning of potential additional strikes.
