Balochistan needs smaller divisions, districts alongside new provinces, says Bugti
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has called for the creation of smaller administrative divisions and districts alongside new provinces in Pakistan, saying the move would improve public access to government institutions and services.
Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, CM Bugti said the debate over smaller administrative units had only recently gained momentum nationally, while his government had started work on the initiative two years ago.
He said smaller administrative units were essential to making government departments more accessible and bringing public services closer to citizens. Balochistan’s administrative structure, he added, must reflect the province’s specific circumstances and people’s needs.
CM Bugti said all divisional posts for Koh-e-Suleman Division had been approved, with officers and staff expected to be appointed soon.
He also announced continued efforts to develop Rakhni into a model division and make it one of the province’s leading areas in development. He said development work had already begun and that the decision to grant Rakhni divisional status should have been taken much earlier.
The chief minister said strict instructions had been issued to keep development projects in Rakhni free from corruption and commission-taking. He added that the Communications and Works Department was carrying out development work directly to ensure transparency.
During the press conference, CM Bugti praised security forces for foiling an attack by Fitna al-Khawarij on a construction company’s building in Gwadar.
He said the sacrifices and performance of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and police in the fight against terrorism in Balochistan were commendable.
CM Bugti also said the decline in terrorist incidents in the province since August was a positive development, praising security forces for their operations against militants.
