Federal cabinet approves new currency note designs, Rs10 coin

The federal cabinet on Wednesday approved new designs for Pakistan’s currency notes and the introduction of a Rs10 coin to replace the existing Rs10 banknote.

The decisions were taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which also discussed administrative matters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait, among other issues.

The cabinet approved the new currency note designs on the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance. It was briefed in detail on the proposed designs and the process followed for their preparation.

Officials told the meeting that suggestions had been invited from artists and designers across the country to develop the new designs.

A cabinet committee formed by the prime minister had also held detailed consultations with all relevant stakeholders on the proposed designs, the briefing said.

The new banknotes will incorporate modern security features to prevent counterfeiting. Advanced materials will also be used in their production to improve durability and extend their usable lifespan.

Separately, the cabinet approved the introduction of a Rs10 coin in place of the existing Rs10 banknote.
