The right-wing members of the provincial assembly said that Karachi pays more than 95% of the total of the provincial and over 70% of federal taxes from the hard-earned money of its citizens, and imposing additional tax burdens on them will make their lives even more difficult.
KMC has failed to provide basic municipal facilities to its citizens. Under the PPP’s mayor, the city has been reduced to a state of disrepair.
The revenue generated by KMC is not reaching the people directly but is being consumed by the ‘system’.
Given these dire circumstances, they demanded a third-party audit of KMC rather than increasing municipal taxes. This would allow Karachi’s citizens to know where their money is being spent.
