Araghchi says Hormuz will not return to pre-war status
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that the US-Israeli war has fundamentally changed the region and that shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz will no longer be managed as before, saying Tehran will not return to the pre-war status quo.
“The current war has changed everything. We must accept that new realities have emerged,” Araghchi said on Sunday, adding that talks on the strategic waterway would continue.
He also warned against another military assault on Iran, saying the United States and Israel had already tried twice and seen the consequences.
Araghchi said the recent wars had exposed the failure of regional security arrangements based on foreign military deployments, arguing that US bases had failed to ensure security for their host countries and had instead contributed to instability.
He reiterated that the Middle East countries should ensure their own security through regional cooperation, without foreign interference, and said Iran sought peaceful coexistence with its neighbours.
The foreign minister also stressed that any agreement to end the war must cover all fronts and bring hostilities across the region to an end, warning that stability would remain elusive otherwise.
